I have never charmed a cobra in India, held my breath underwater for more than ten minutes, parachuted into the Vietnamese wetlands, or eaten escargot. I may not have struck oil in my back yard, discovered the cure for cancer, nor flew a plane through the Grand Canyon, but, I aspire to do all those things one day, well most of them. My name is Noah D, I am 14 years old and these are my goals for my freshman year.
Academically, I want to join Renaissance and get out of FIRE. These goals shouldn’t be too hard but they are still very important. FIRE takes up half of our lunch for what, so we can complete a couple minutes of homework that we could do at home. I also want to finish off the year with “A”s, or at least a 4.0. This year I plan to not procrastinate on every assignment and get my homework done quickly so I have time for other things. I want to go to college but I am not sure what for. After college I wish to start a family and get a good paying job.
Believe it or not I too have a social life. In my freshman year, and in fact all throughout high-school, I want to hang out with my friends and I would like to continually make new friends. I fight way too much with my 12 year-old brother and it needs to stop because it has been going on since he was a couple days old. I also wish to do more things with my family.
In the athletic aspect, I hope to make the BHS track team in the spring. Then, once I am on the team I wish to greatly improve upon my times in the 100 and 400 from last year. Additionally, I would like to be able to do 100 pushups in a row. Another goal is to go to the gym more to get stronger and stay fit until track season. It probably won't happen this year, because you can't just take off two weeks of school at any time, but I plan to hike the John Muir Trail once again. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a 200+ mile hiking trail in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas which stars in Yosemite and finishes at the peak of Mount Whitney.
As I venture into high school many opportunities and open doors lay in wait. In my freshman year I plan to seek these out and take advantage of them. I want my high school years to bring back good memories, not bad memories. I shape those memories today and the next four years of my life.
